The Ukrainian medical system actively inherits European standards. Family doctors had appeared in the country, and every citizen had the opportunity to choose a doctor regardless of their place of residence. Also, digitalization has already taken place in medical institutions and pharmacies. But this industry is still changing.
In autumn, Ukraine plans to allow the sale of psychotropic substances on electronic prescriptions. Drug pharmacists will be able to sell narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors to licensed institutions. The government of Ukraine is considering the existence of a transition period for such medical institutions. Doctors will be able to prescribe such drugs only after joining the electronic health system. Only then can the doctor prescribe a highly effective medication to the patient.
All e-recipes will be stored in the database and closely monitored by the Ministry of health.
"Electronic prescription drugs are another step in the digitization of the medical field. And this step is primarily aimed at improving access to a drug that makes patients with complex illnesses feel better. As well as the e-prescription for antibiotics, this is another stage in the European integration of Ukraine and ensuring the controlled release of prescription drugs," said deputy minister of health for digital development Mariia Karchevych.
This innovation is the second stage of the introduction of the electronic recipe. In 2023, it is expected to complete the transition of Ukraine to electronic recipes.
