Ukrainian TAF Industries and Finnish Summa Defence have signed a memorandum to scale drone production in Finland. The project is part of the Build with Ukraine approach, which places industrial production capacity in safe partner countries while keeping Ukrainian battlefield-tested technology at the center of the product.
The joint enterprise is expected to use Summa’s manufacturing infrastructure and technology ecosystem in Finland to produce TAF Industries products for the needs of Ukraine’s defense forces. The partnership connects Ukrainian operational experience with European industrial scaling capacity.
Why the model matters
- Production in a partner country can add supply resilience for Ukrainian defense needs.
- European manufacturing infrastructure helps scale products that have already been tested in wartime conditions.
- The partnership strengthens the defense technology ecosystem for both Ukraine and Northern Europe.
TAF Industries’ portfolio includes FPV drones, reconnaissance UAVs, interceptor drones, electronic warfare systems, remote-control solutions, and other modern battlefield technologies. The company also has its own R&D center, distributed manufacturing network, and engineering teams.
For Summa Defence, the cooperation fits a strategy of building a stronger defense and security technology base through consolidation of innovative small and medium-sized companies. For Ukraine, the value is the ability to expand output without relying only on production sites exposed to wartime risks.
The project also illustrates a broader trend: Ukrainian defense technologies are becoming part of European industrial planning. If implemented effectively, such partnerships can turn wartime innovation into a more stable transnational production network.
