Ukraine's Chargé d'affaires in Georgia, Mykhailo Kharyshyn, announced that the Ukrainian government has officially invited Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili to Kyiv for the 4th Crimean Platform summit, scheduled for September 11. This could be the first visit of a Georgian leader to Ukraine since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Earlier in 2023, President Zurabishvili had planned to visit Ukraine, but the trip was not approved by the Georgian government. She later clarified that her absence was due to the lack of an official invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. Despite this, Zurabishvili participated virtually in the previous Crimean Platform summit and the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, where she met with Zelenskyi.
In addition to the invitation extended to Zurabishvili, the Ukrainian government also invited the leadership of the Georgian Parliament to participate in the parliamentary summit of the Crimean Platform, set to take place in Riga in October. Last year, Georgian Deputy Speaker Archil Talakvadze represented the country at the event.
This invitation comes amid ongoing tensions between the Georgian government and President Zurabishvili, highlighting the complex political dynamics in the region.
