Deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanyshyna said that at the next meeting of the EU leaders Ukraine might be given the status of the candidate. The next meeting of leaders is planned for early summer, so Ukrainians will soon be able to learn the results of their struggle for freedom and European integration, which they have been going through since 2013.
Soon Ukrainians will know the meaning of Maidan in 2013-2014 and defend their position now.
"We hope that when EU members meet again, a decision will be taken in June this year to grant Ukraine candidate status. We usually negotiate with various capitals and say that this is an expedited procedure in which we go through all the trials. This was made possible by the changes we have made over the past 8 years, it was our way, in fact, to Europe," said Stefanyshyna.
Recall that Ukrainians almost 10 years ago preferred Europeanization. For this purpose, people died during the Maidan revolution. Now Russia is attacking Ukraine because the people and government want to become a member of the EU. But even war will not stop the independent choice of the Ukrainian people. On February 28, 2022, Ukraine applied for membership in the EU. European leaders supported integration with Ukraine, so on March 1, 2022, the European Parliament endorsed the resolution on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership.
