Ukraine Elected to UPU Governing Bodies
On September 18, Ukraine was officially elected to the governing bodies of the UN Universal Postal Union (UPU) — the Administrative Council and the Postal Operations Council.
The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, who thanked UPU member states for their support and trust.
Strengthening Global Postal Networks
According to Sybiga, Ukraine will use its new position to advance key priorities:
-
Promoting digital transformation in the global postal sector;
-
Strengthening operational resilience in crisis and wartime conditions;
-
Improving postal logistics networks worldwide.
This appointment underscores Ukraine’s growing role in shaping international standards for communication and logistics infrastructure.
Russia and Belarus Excluded
Sybiga noted that it was symbolic that Russia and Belarus again failed to win seats in the leadership of the Universal Postal Union. This reflects the international community’s rejection of their attempts to influence global institutions amid ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
Strategic Significance for Ukraine
Membership in the UPU’s governing bodies provides Ukraine with:
-
A stronger voice in global postal and logistics policy-making;
-
Opportunities to integrate Ukrainian postal services into advanced digital and e-commerce systems;
-
A platform to showcase Ukraine’s resilience and innovation in postal operations under wartime conditions.
