The situation at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is on the border of non-return. This is a concern in Ukraine and the IAEA. The occupiers are shelling a nuclear facility. Since March, the Russian invaders have staged provocations at the captured site: burning ammunition, firing shells, and accusing the Ukrainian side. On August 21, damage to the overpass was reported. This indicates the risk of radiation being released into the open environment. Therefore, the IAEA may soon come to Ukraine to verify and eliminate the dangerous effects of the station.
Head of the regional military administration Oleksandr Starukh said that Ukraine is ready to receive the members of the commission. According to his statements, preparations for the visit of the Nuclear Security Supervisory Commission are already underway. But the Ukrainian side since March 4 can not control what happens at the ZNPP.
"Much depends on how that party adheres to the principles of nuclear safety and common sense. Stabilization of the situation on the NNP is mainly the task of the international community and the organizations responsible for it," said Oleksandr Starukh.
The head of the military administration also said that the Ukrainian workers captured by the occupiers are trying to control the situation in difficult conditions. Employees of the Russian nuclear organization left the station a few days ago, before damage to the overpass.
