On August 15, Romanian president Klaus Iohannisi announced this in a speech dedicated to the Day of the country's Navy. He said that Romania continues to support the neighbouring state and will do so until Ukraine defeats the aggressor on its territory. Also, the Romanian government is ready to join the EU initiative and help Ukraine eliminate the consequences of a full-scale Russian invasion. In addition, Klaus Iohannisi announced the launch of a training base for the Ukrainian military. The regional centre will be used to train pilots to fly F-16 aircraft. It is known that the base in Romania will also be used by the pilots of the country and NATO.
"We will continue to support the European path of Kyiv and will advocate for significant European assistance to Ukraine at all levels," the Romanian president said.
Recall that the issue of supplying Ukraine with American multifunctional fighters has not been resolved so far. However, on May 19, 2023, it became known that the United States was ready to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters. Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, and now Romania joined the initiative.
