Ukraine Seals Strategic Agriculture Pact With South Korea’s Daedong

Six‑month negotiation culminates in a landmark MoU that brings next‑gen machinery, R&D exchange and training programmes to boost post‑war farm productivity

Kyiv, 21 July 2025 — Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy has signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation with Daedong, South Korea’s leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery. The agreement, finalised after six months of technical talks, positions Ukraine’s farming sector for rapid modernisation during its post‑war recovery.

Key Pillars of the Memorandum

  • Technology Transfer & Machinery Supply

    • Introduction of Daedong’s high‑efficiency tractors, combines and precision‑seeding equipment.

    • Local assembly possibilities under discussion to spur job creation and reduce import costs.

  • Joint R&D & Innovation

    • Collaborative research on climate‑resilient crop technologies, smart‑farming solutions and low‑emission powertrains.

    • Access to Daedong’s global innovation hubs for Ukrainian agronomists and engineers.

  • Training & Capacity Building

    • Establishment of regional demo‑farms and service centres.

    • Certification courses for mechanics, operators and agri‑tech specialists delivered by Korean experts.

Taras Vysotsky, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy:
“In wartime and beyond, boosting yield per hectare is mission‑critical. This partnership accelerates our path to a tech‑driven, export‑competitive agriculture sector.”

Why It Matters

Benefit Impact on Ukrainian Agriculture
Higher productivity Precision machinery can lift output by 15‑25 % and cut fuel use up to 30 %.
Resilient supply chains Local assembly mitigates wartime logistics risks and foreign‑exchange drain.
Export potential Modernised farms meet EU quality standards, aiding market expansion post‑accession.
Sustainability gains Smart tech reduces fertiliser run‑off and CO₂ footprint, aligning with EU Green Deal goals.

Next Steps

  1. Pilot Projects (Q4 2025): Deployment of Daedong equipment across three oblasts to validate fuel‑savings and yield gains.

  2. Training Hub Launch (Q1 2026): Opening of a Kyiv‑region centre to certify 500+ operators annually.

  3. Local Assembly Feasibility (2026): Study on joint venture site selection, incentives and supply‑chain localisation.

Outlook

Partnering with Daedong signals Ukraine’s shift toward innovative, resilient and eco‑friendly farming. As reconstruction accelerates, the MoU lays the groundwork for a sustainable agri‑tech ecosystem capable of feeding domestic demand and driving export growth across Europe and beyond.
