The Cabinet approved a decision to build a modern complex for producing fuel assemblies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants in the Yuzhnoukrainsk community.
Energoatom said the project will strengthen energy independence as Ukraine switches to fuel based on Westinghouse technology.
Westinghouse previously assessed and potentially qualified Energoatom production lines, while environmental impact analysis and a feasibility study were completed and passed state expertise.
The next stage is detailed project documentation and a comprehensive state review required for such facilities.
The project is intended to localize part of fuel supply and reduce dependence on external vendors over time.
