Official Ratification
On January 16, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Albania, Andriy Sibiga and Inli Hasani, exchanged ratification instruments during a formal ceremony. This step marked the official entry into force of the treaty, signed in February of last year during the Ukraine–Southeast Europe summit. -
Long-Term Commitment
The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty is designed to remain in effect for an initial period of 10 years, automatically renewing for additional five-year intervals unless one of the parties seeks to terminate it. Signed in Tirana by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, the agreement has been in the works since 2023. Albania completed its ratification procedures in July 2024, and the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) did so in November 2024.
Diplomatic Milestone: Embassy Opening

In tandem with the treaty ratification, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga announced the upcoming opening of Ukraine’s first-ever embassy in Albania. According to Sibiga, this move symbolizes a significant deepening of bilateral ties and a tangible step toward enhanced political, economic, and cultural engagement.“Today we will also open the Embassy of Albania in Ukraine.
