Ukraine’s First Campus 5G Network Debuts at KAI With Vodafone

Pilot hits 10 Gbps and 1 ms latency, opening the door for nationwide roll-out and new ed-tech services

What happened

  • Kyiv Aviation Institute (KAI) is now the first Ukrainian university with a live 5G cell on campus.

  • The network was delivered in partnership with Vodafone Ukraine under the Ministry of Digital Transformation’s WINWIN innovation program.

Specs students can try today

  • Throughput: up to 10 Gbps downstream

  • Latency: as low as 1 ms

  • Access: any 5G-ready device + Vodafone SIM inside the coverage zone

Why it matters

  1. Education sandbox – lecturers and students gain a real-life 5G lab for AR/VR training modules, drone control, robotics and high-resolution telemetry.

  2. Blueprint for scale-up – until now 5G pilots in Ukraine were limited to operator labs or industrial testbeds. A successful campus rollout gives regulators confidence to accelerate national licensing.

  3. Step toward 2030 strategy – the Cabinet-approved Electronic Communications Strategy calls for full 5G launch, resilient networks and ubiquitous high-speed internet—objectives now one step closer.

What’s next

  • Vodafone and the Ministry will monitor performance data from the KAI cell to fine-tune spectrum allocation and backhaul requirements.

  • Additional university pilots are expected in 2026 as part of the national 5G deployment roadmap.
