Ukraine intends to fully provide itself with natural gas by reducing its consumption by 30-40% due to the thermal modernization program and an increase in production from 18-19 billion cubic meters up to 23-25 billion cubic meters per year in the next three to four years, said the deputy head of the president's office Rostislav Shurma.
"We will also work on a program to increase the production of natural gas and other minerals in Ukraine so that production increases from the existing 18-19 billion cubic meters to at least 23-25 billion cubic meters over the next three to four years," — he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.
As reported, at the end of 2016, the government approved the concept for the development of the gas production industry of Ukraine until 2020, which assumed an increase in natural gas production from 19.9 billion cubic meters in 2015 (in 2013 — 21.4 billion cubic meters) to 27.6 billion cubic meters in 2020.
Gas production in Ukraine in 2020 amounted to 19.7 billion cubic meters (-4.4% to 2019), including Ukrgazvydobuvannya (A vertically integrated company with a complete production cycle: from exploration of gas and gas condensate reserves, field development, transportation, gas processing and condensate and oil refining to sales. It is the largest Ukrainian gas producer.) — 14.2 billion cubic meters.
At the same time, in 2020, Ukraine increased its gross natural gas consumption by 5.5% (by 1.55 billion cubic meters) compared to 2019 — up to 29.8 billion cubic meters.
