Ukrainian Army Implements NATO Standards

The president of Ukraine instructed to work out the issue of vegan and vegetarian food for the soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces

In the summer, a project calling on the government to provide a variety of meals for defenders was registered on the website of electronic petitions to the President of Ukraine. The petition mentions the need to create a menu for vegetarians and vegans. In less than 3 months, the appeal to Volodymyr Zelenskyy garnered the necessary 25.000 votes, so the president considered it.

Earlier, the Ministry of defence of Ukraine considered the possibility of introducing feeding for the military according to the standards of the armies of the North Atlantic Alliance countries. One of the criteria for such nutrition is to consider the combatants' nutritional characteristics. Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the petition and has already instructed them to develop a plan to introduce nutrition.

"It should now be noted that there is no food standard for members of the armed forces of Ukraine and other military formations who prefer vegetarian food. Taking into account those mentioned above, I appealed to the prime minister of Ukraine, Shmyhal, with a request to work out the issue raised in the electronic petition," said the head of state.

The cabinet of ministers will now consider the possibility of feeding according to the preferences of each soldier (due to the nutritional features). Such a step is crucial for caring for people who fight but don't eat meat. Since eating only cereals in the diet, the person lacks vitamins and energy. A balanced meal will help soldiers who do not eat meat feel energetic and full. Such changes also bring Ukraine closer to realizing its aspiration to become a NATO member.
