Ukrainian Refugees Strengthen the German Economy

A head of the board of the Federal employment agency of Germany showed numbers of the positive impact of Ukrainian refugees on the German labour market

After February 24, 2022, the number of Ukrainians in Germany increased 7 times. Currently, there are about 8 million refugees from Ukraine. It is reported that after Russia invaded Ukraine, almost 900.000 Ukrainians began to work in Germany. Of these, 65.000 have official work and pay for social insurance contributions fairly. 21.000 people work not officially, not full-time, earn about €450 per month, and have the right to social benefits.

In addition, Germany expects that the number of Ukrainians who will have official employment will increase soon. The main reason is that many refugees complete courses in the German language, integration, and professional training. The board member of the Federal employment agency Daniel Tertsenbach says that Ukrainians have great motivation and pay taxes tidily.

Also, the representative of the employment agency gave an interview with the Deutsche Presse-Agentur GmbH news agency. Terzenbach noted that the increase in the number of Ukrainians in German offices does not harm the country. On the contrary, he noted that refugees from Ukraine helped to reduce the burden on the local labour market.
