On December 1, during a speech by the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy in parliament announced that he had submitted the bill to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration.
"An essential component of our international policy is the support of world Ukrainians. I know how important the issue of multiple citizenships is for Ukrainians living in the US, Canada, and the EU. Today I am submitting a corresponding bill for consideration. We are 65 million! For the first time, Ukrainians from all over the world will feel themselves not a diaspora, not people of Ukrainian origin, but citizens of Ukraine," Zelenskyy added.
According to the president, there are 65 million Ukrainians by birth in the world. However, only citizenship has almost 20 million less.
In September of this year, the president of Ukraine paid a diplomatic visit to America. Then Zelenskyy assured the Americans of Ukrainian descent that the possibility of dual citizenship would soon be realized.
