Ukrainian Ukrzaliznytsia is a civilian rail carrier and the most powerful logistics provider in Ukraine. Ukraine is located in the centre of Europe and is connected by rail with Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. In order to support transnational logistics with the participation of Ukraine, USAID provided 105 diesel generators for Ukrzaliznytsia with a total cost of $2.7 million.
The donation was made in order to ensure uninterrupted commercial and civil transportation and strengthen Ukraine's economy. It is reported that USAID will continue to support the Ukrainian railway.
The US Agency for International Development has been working in Ukraine since 1992 and runs 42 humanitarian projects here. As of February 24, 2022, Ukraine received $16.75 billion in budget assistance from USAID, as well as $1.4 billion in humanitarian aid.
