Unprecedented Rate of Fire: DITA Artillery System to Strengthen Ukrainian Border Guards

Ukraine has received a wheeled 155 mm self-propelled artillery system, known as DITA, from the Czech Republic

With a high degree of automation, the howitzer can operate with just two crew members and delivers an unprecedented rate of fire. Once training is completed, the DITA will be deployed to the front lines against Russian occupation forces, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reports.

Key Features of the DITA Artillery System

  1. High Automation
The DITA system is highly automated, requiring only two operators. One of them inputs target coordinates, while the onboard computer calculates firing parameters. Loading and aiming functions are carried out automatically, which significantly reduces workload and reaction time.

  2. 155 mm Caliber
The new system uses NATO-standard 155 mm shells. Its modern design provides the firepower needed to counter the enemy on the battlefield efficiently.

  3. Exceptional Rate of Fire
Thanks to its automated mechanisms and crew-friendly interface, DITA can maintain a notably higher rate of fire compared to traditional howitzers, offering a crucial advantage in combat.

  4. Deployment on the Front Lines
After the Ukrainian border guards’ crews complete their training, the system will be deployed to the front line to destroy enemy positions and equipment as part of ongoing defensive operations against Russian aggression.

Context and Cooperation

  • Support for Ukrainian Border Guards
This Czech-made howitzer bolsters the capabilities of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, which fights on the front lines alongside other components of the country’s Defense Forces.

  • Long-Term Partnership with the Czech Republic
Ukraine and the Czech Republic recently signed a 10-year security-sector cooperation agreement. As part of this, Czech assistance valued at 400 million euros includes weapons production support and military training opportunities, demonstrating the robust military collaboration between the two nations.
