Upcycling (reuse of old materials to produce new products) has been actively developing in Ukraine in recent years. And here’s a selection of the most successful projects in the last few years.
Ukrainian Mariia Lukianova was interested in recycling used waste paper as early as 2010. But then, the Ukrainian girl did not create the project but experimented, giving the results of her work to friends. Five years later, she decided to create Green Paper Lab. The entrepreneur uses cutout books and paper from the shredder in a professional setting. To get colored products, Mariia uses only natural colorants: rowan juice or beetroot, tea, etc.
Happy Drum is a Ukrainian drum manufacturer. The musical instruments of this brand are unusual not only because of the raw materials from which they are made but also because of their shape. Happy Drum produces glucophone petal drums. Old gas cylinders are used to produce glucophone. They are cut, processed, removed with unique petals, and painted. Today, the Ukrainian upcycle project manufactures about 150 drums a month and sells them within the country, and exports them to Australia and America.
This clothing brand is well known within the country and around Eastern Europe. It can be called the first brand in Ukraine to study conscious clothing production. The project designers use old denim clothes to create new fashionable things.
In 2020, Bevza began to use plastic bottles to sew its collections in the Ukrainian fashion brand. The polyester used in clothing is processed with special technology. The materials received are not only soft and pleasant to the touch, but also help to keep the environment clean.
