US Embassy Returns to Kyiv

US Ambassador to Ukraine appointed for the first time in 3 years

Due to the outbreak of the Russian war against Ukraine, on February 13, the United States embassy arrived in Lviv. Already on February 18, it was forced to move to Krakow due to the heating up of the situation in Ukraine.

On April 25, during the visit of Blinken and Lloyd to Ukraine, the return of the embassy to Ukraine was announced, and the appointment of a new ambassador — Bridget Brink. In 2019, Trump recalled Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, and the position was vacant for 3 years.

“We’re doing it deliberately, we’re doing it carefully, we’re doing it with the security of our personnel foremost in mind, but we’re doing it,” Antony Blinken.

“Great to be back! Today, members of the Embassy team traveled to Lviv to meet with key partners, including the MFA Ukraine. The visit was a first step ahead to more regular travel in the immediate future. Preparations are underway to resume Kyiv operations as soon as possible,” the US Embassy in Ukraine has already tweeted about its return.

First, members of the diplomatic mission will make one-day visits to Lviv and prepare the ground for the final return over several weeks.
