During his visit to Kyiv on September 6, Antony Blinken said that the US State department had received permission to transfer $5.4 million from Russian oligarchs, frozen by sanctions, to Ukraine. The funds will be included in the upcoming military and humanitarian aid package from the United States.
"For the first time, we are transferring to Ukraine assets seized from sanctioned Russian oligarchs, which will now be used to support Ukrainian military veterans," Antony Blinken Энтони Блинкен.
"Those who have enabled Putin's war of aggression should pay for it," added the secretary. $5.4 million will be transferred to centres that provide treatment and rehabilitation to Ukrainian military personnel affected by the Russian war. The overall package includes:
- $75 million in emergency military aid;
- $100 million long-term military assistance;
- $300 million to restore state law and order in territories recently liberated from Russian occupation;
- $206 million in humanitarian aid (food, medicine, drinking water, modular houses for internally displaced persons).
