USAID Supports a Third of Ukrainian Agricultural Producers with Fertilizers

This spring, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has significantly bolstered Ukrainian agricultural efforts during the “Sowing of the Indomitable” initiative

Here are the key contributions made by USAID to support the agricultural sector in Ukraine:

  • Low-Interest Loans: Over 1,000 agricultural producers have been granted access to low-interest loans provided by local credit unions.
  • Fertilizer Distribution: USAID has distributed fertilizers to 7,621 agricultural producers across 23 regions of Ukraine. These fertilizers are crucial for fertilizing both winter and spring crops.
  • Seed Material for Families: More than 200,000 families in 476 frontline and recently liberated communities received 10 tons of seed material for free. This aid targeted families of internally displaced persons, large families, pensioners, and other socially vulnerable populations to help them plant gardens.

Fertilizer Support Overview

To date, USAID has provided fertilizers to over 14,000 farmers, which represents approximately 32% of registered agricultural producers in Ukraine. This support has enabled the production of more than 2 million metric tons of agricultural crops during the 2023-2024 growing season.

Despite the ongoing war with Russia, the agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of Ukraine's economy and a vital component of global food security. USAID's assistance underscores the resilience and importance of Ukrainian agriculture in maintaining both national and international food supplies.
