Vinnytsia plans biogas power production at a municipal landfill

The project would modernize and reclaim the waste site near Stadnytsia

A municipal landfill near Vinnytsia may become a source of electricity from biogas. The city is preparing a project to modernize and reclaim the solid waste site near the village of Stadnytsia, using gas produced by decomposing waste.

The planned works require an additional land plot of 7.7 hectares. The site is currently linked to a regional forestry enterprise and must be transferred into municipal ownership before the project can move forward.

Waste site becomes an energy asset

The logic of the project is practical. Landfills generate methane-rich gas as organic waste decomposes. If this gas is collected and used in power generation, the community can reduce emissions, improve safety at the landfill and receive an additional local energy source.

The decision still needs approval by the Vinnytsia city authorities and then by the regional council. Only after the land transfer will the community be able to implement modernization and reclamation works.

For Ukrainian cities, such projects are important because waste management, energy resilience and environmental recovery are increasingly connected. A landfill that was previously only a cost and pollution risk can become part of a more modern municipal infrastructure model.
