This move follows the trend of mobile operators partnering with satellite internet providers, similar to Kyivstar's recent collaboration with OneWeb.
Details about the launch dates and specifics of the new services remain under wraps. However, Vodafone's initiative aims to make Starlink's high-speed broadband satellite internet accessible to end-users in Ukraine. This partnership is expected to enhance the connectivity options available to Ukrainian consumers, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
Currently, Starlink's subscription fees stand at $75 per month for Ukrainian users, a figure that is notably higher than the rates in other European countries such as Germany, France, and Italy. This disparity has raised concerns about affordability for Ukrainian consumers.
Oleksandr Glushchenko, a former member of the Internet Association of Ukraine, speculated that Vodafone's involvement could lead to reduced tariffs, making the service more accessible, especially once the country's energy situation stabilizes. This could potentially allow users to connect without bearing the high costs associated with current satellite internet services.
Additionally, Vodafone has expanded its network capabilities in Ukraine by adding a new destination network code, 75 (+380 75), which will cover 10 million numbers. This expansion was approved by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Fields of Electronic Communications, Radio Frequency Spectrum, and Provision of Postal Services (NKEK).
As Vodafone Ukraine explores this partnership with Starlink, the potential for more competitive pricing and enhanced service availability could significantly impact the satellite internet market in Ukraine.
