“Volynyaka” Hexacopter Enters Ukrainian Service

The Ministry of Defence has officially certified the Volynyaka unmanned aviation complex for frontline service. The hexacopter—designed and manufactured in Ukraine—has already proven itself in combat since the early months of Russia’s full-scale invasion, but now enters the Defence Forces’ inventory as a standard system.

What Volynyaka Is

Feature Description
Architecture Hexacopter (six brushless electric motors) with swappable payload bay
Primary role Precision bomber for high-value targets
Secondary role Front-line logistics—rapid delivery of ammunition, electronics, medical kits and other supplies
Mission window 24 / 7, all-weather, including dusk, night and high-wind conditions
Control kit Ruggedized ground station, pilot FPV goggles, signal repeater for extended range
Warhead options Conventional HE, shaped-charge or fragmentation munitions sufficient to disable heavy armor, dug-in positions and soft-skinned vehicles
Status Codified by MoD; cleared for mass deployment across Defence Forces

Combat Track Record

  • Hundreds of confirmed strikes on Russian armor, trucks, field fortifications and troop concentrations since spring 2022.

  • Reusable airframe with modular bomb-release mechanism keeps sortie cost low.

  • High flight stability lets crews hit small targets—even under electronic-warfare pressure.

Why It Matters

  1. Indigenous Production – Built entirely inside Ukraine, shielding supply lines from international export restrictions.

  2. Cost-Efficiency – Compared with imported strike drones, Volynyaka offers a far lower unit price and fast repair cycle.

  3. Flexible Tasking – One platform covers two essential roles: precision strike and last-mile resupply.

  4. Weather Immunity – Hexacopter design and upgraded avionics allow flights when fixed-wing FPVs or quadcopters would be grounded.

Logistics & Next Steps

  • Serial manufacturing: domestic plants are ramping up output to meet Defence Forces demand.

  • Field training: newly formed drone units will receive operator courses and maintenance workshops.

  • Integration: the platform links with existing ground control software, enabling joint missions with other loitering-munition and ISR systems.

“Volynyaka gives our troops a reliable bomber that can also sling critical cargo to the zero-line when roads are mined or shelled. Its proven kill-ratio and low operating costs make it a cornerstone of our drone doctrine,”
— Ministry of Defence statement

With Volynyaka now standardized, Ukraine’s drone corps expands its toolkit for both offensive strikes and battlefield sustainment—another step in the country’s drive to out-innovate a larger adversary.
