Imports of exotic invest.com/investing-in-ukraine/starting-business-in-ukraine/fruit-and-berry-production/" rel="dofollow">fruits to the country are increasing year by year. In addition to increasing demand, the product range is expanding. Not long ago, there was an opportunity to buy white dragon fruit or pitahaya and other exotic vitamins in Ukrainian supermarkets.
The demand for citrus was mainly higher. Comparing 2021 with the previous year, it can be noted that Ukraine was imported to:
- 45.5 % more mandarin;
- 26% more oranges;
- 20% more lemons;
- Almost 12% more grapefruit.
Limes, pomelo fruit, and bergamot are in demand among Ukrainians. The purchase of these fruits in the country increased by 1-2%.
Shipments of berries to Ukraine have also increased. Pears and blueberries have achieved the highest rates. In just the first six months of 2021, about 80 tons of blueberries and 1.400 tons of pears were brought into the country.
The fact that Ukraine has increased demand for strawberries, raspberries, and peaches cannot be overlooked. Experts note that even though these berries are grown in the country, they are not sufficient to meet Ukrainian needs.
The fruit market in Ukraine is fulfilled by:
- Spain — by 4%;
- South Africa by about 5 %;
- China — 7 % of total demand;
- Egypt — 21 %;
- Turkey — 47% of total imports of exotic fruit.
Pakistan and Greece can complement this list in terms of increased demand for mandarins.
