Analysts of the Ukrainian agricultural business club association published data on coffee consumption by Ukrainians. Since 2016, the import of coffee beans into the country has grown by 63%. As of the end of last year, coffee imports amounted to 48 thousand, equal to $116 million in monetary terms. Interestingly, more than 50% of imported coffee is fresh, and roasting for further consumption has already taken place in Ukraine.
Leaders in coffee exports to Ukraine:
- Poland — 23% — $ 37.8 mln;
- Italy — 15% — $ 25.5 mln;
- Germany — 9% — $ 14.8 mln;
- Vietnam — 9% — $ 14.6 mln;
- Brazil — 7% — $ 12.4 mln.
It is noteworthy that the European countries from the list above are themselves, coffee exporters. These countries buy green coffee from countries of origin, process it into an instant drink, roast it, pack it and sell it to Ukraine.
Back in early 2000, Ukrainians consumed 0.2 kg of coffee per year. And already in 2018, this figure was 1.2 kg per year.
"However, the started trend of growth in the level of coffee consumption will continue in the coming years and will lead to further growth in coffee imports," comments Svetlana Lytvyn, an analyst at UCAB.
