Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the construction of underground defense production facilities in Ukraine, citing both security concerns and delays in the delivery of military aid from international partners.
"We are building underground facilities for the production of weapons to ensure that Ukrainian soldiers can continue to defend themselves, even when partner deliveries are delayed," Zelensky explained.
He also urged Italian businesses to collaborate with Ukraine in defense production, as well as in areas such as mechanical engineering, energy, aerospace, and IT. Zelensky highlighted Ukraine's advancements in drone and missile technologies, which are being used for operations inside Russia.
Additionally, Zelensky invited Italy to play a role in Ukraine's post-war reconstruction, emphasizing the need to not just rebuild but to create "a qualitatively new economy and modern infrastructure." He stressed that Ukraine's reconstruction should integrate cutting-edge technologies and innovative infrastructure.
