Zelensky Appoints Nariman Dzhelyalov as Ukraine’s New Ambassador to Turkey

President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Nariman Dzhelyalov as Ukraine’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey

The official presidential decree confirming the appointment was published on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

"Appoint Dzhelyalov Nariman Enverovych as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey," the document states.

Context

The appointment comes amid active diplomatic engagement between Ukraine and Turkey. President Zelensky recently held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, discussing regional security and Ukraine’s strategic cooperation with Ankara.

Zelensky also stated that further discussions involving a Russian delegation may take place in Turkey, reflecting the country’s continued role as a potential mediator in broader peace and security processes.

About Nariman Dzhelyalov

Dzhelyalov is a well-known Crimean Tatar public figure and former First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People. His appointment is symbolically significant, especially in the context of Ukraine’s continued efforts to restore sovereignty over Crimea, which has been under Russian occupation since 2014.

This high-level diplomatic post underscores Ukraine’s emphasis on reinforcing international partnerships, particularly with regional powers like Turkey, which maintains strategic influence in the Black Sea region.
