President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in a Spanish-Ukrainian technology session in Madrid focused on strengthening defense cooperation. The meeting was hosted at Indra Group with the participation of Spain’s defense minister Margarita Robles.
Spanish manufacturers showcased capabilities including counter-drone systems, weapon stations (turrets), aerial and ground drones, long-range surveillance radars, and ammunition. Companies outlined their current R&D, production capacities, use-cases, and technical characteristics of offered systems.
Both sides discussed potential joint projects and industrial partnerships in Ukraine, from technology transfer to localized production and service/MRO. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s interest in building sustained ties with Spain’s defense industry: “I will speak with Prime Minister Sánchez about how to strengthen our defense and our industries—Ukraine’s and Spain’s. The more bilateral links with EU states, the deeper our integration with Europe.”
Spain’s broader support for Ukraine this year is expected to approach €1 billion, creating a backdrop for practical cooperation and co-production initiatives.
