Zelenskyy Supports Finland’s Path to NATO

On May 12, during the dialogue between the presidents of Ukraine and Finland, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed full support to our partner state in its desire to become part of the Alliance

This was announced by the president of Finland, Sauli Niinistö

"I spoke with President Zelenskyy and reiterated Finland's firm support for Ukraine. I informed him of Finland's steps towards NATO membership, and he expressed his full support for it," Sauli Niinistö wrote on Twitter.

After the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24, the majority of Finns began to support the accession of their state to the North Atlantic Alliance. According to Jens Stoltenberg, an alliance between Finland and NATO will strengthen each side.

On May 12, Sauli Niinistö and Sanna Marin announced a joint statement of absolute support for integrating their state into NATO.

"An important discussion took place this spring about Finland's possible membership in NATO. [...] Now that the decision is close at hand, we express our common opinion to inform parliamentary factions and groups. Finland's membership in NATO will strengthen the entire defense alliance. Finland must immediately apply for NATO membership", a quote from the joint statement.

According to the Swedish information resource Svenska Dagbladet, Sweden is also inclined to join the Alliance. The decision is almost made, and according to SD, the membership application can be submitted in June this year.
