5 Mln Ukrainian Refugees in Europe

The UN Refugee Agency published data on the number of Ukrainians who received temporary shelter in Europe

The current report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reports that 5.008.482 Ukrainians received the status of temporary protection in Europe. Since the beginning of 2023, the number of refugees from Ukraine has increased by 185.000, and this can be explained by Russian attacks against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which made it impossible for children to live in icy de-energized apartments.

The report was based on information the High Commissioner received from local authorities. The most significant number of Ukrainians by country:

  • Italy — 173.000;
  • Spain — 171.000.

In total, as of February 24, 2023, 8 million Ukrainians had to left Ukraine. As we can see, some of them returned home.
