This move followed after July 2 2015, when the Ukrainian parliament voted to adopt a law on the National police. 278 people's deputies supported the large-scale reform in the country. The adopted law defined the legal basis, activity, status of police officers. The new police has obligations to protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of all persons on Ukraine's territory and the interests of society and the state. This body is a part of the centralised system of the Ministry of internal affairs of the country, which prevents arbitrariness among employees. So, for the state in the global sense, such large-scale reforms had the main goal – the elimination of corruption among law enforcement agencies.
In addition, the reform took place within the structure. Previously, Ukraine had a militia, a system which had been maintained since the Soviet Union. The militia had no initiative, did not want to interact with society, and sought stability in their work. The National police of Ukraine seeks to break the stereotypes once imposed by the USSR militia. In addition, all entity members can suggest improvements to the authority. The most visible impact of the reform was on those in charge of traffic. Previously, officers were only responsible for certain road sections and did not move anywhere from the post. Police officers patrol the entire city. In addition, cameras were installed on cars and police officers to prevent bribery and concealment of crimes.
Also, the National police is involved in countering the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, maintaining security and order in the cities.
'Thank you for saving Ukrainians! Thank you for your heroism in battle," wrote Volodymyr Zelenskyy
That is why today, Ukraine celebrates not only the day of the creation of the European-style police but also an excellent reformation step.
On the cover of the article, you see October 10, Kyiv: a serviceman of the National police is trying to shut down the Russian Shahed with the help of a rifle. October 10, Kyiv. At that time, Ukraine did not have air defence, and the National police, without hesitation, risking their own lives, protected citizens as much as they could. This photo shows a real Ukrainian hero.
