The press service of Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo reported that the state is ready to train Ukrainians to work with fighter jets, which, possibly, will fall into service with Ukraine this year. Belgium has been using the F16 since the 1970s and, during that time, has mastered the art of piloting these fighters.
The transmission of F16 is not discussed for 2 reasons:
- Only 50 of these fighters are in service with Belgium;
- This technique is critical to defending its NATO partners Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and fulfilling its obligations within the Benelux.
Over time, F16s will be replaced by more modern F35s and used as a spare for the new hangar.
In Denmark and the Netherlands, the situation is slightly different. They are ready to provide Ukraine with F16, but this requires permission from Germany, as previously in the case with Leopards.
