Can’t Be Too Much Punishment

The Netherlands proposes to create another court to try Russian crimes in Ukraine

The Hague is already working to address Moscow’s violation of human rights and international norms of warfare. The court recently delivered a verdict in the Boeing 777 case. But the number of crimes committed by the Russian Federation is enormous, so the Netherlands is ready to activate another tribunal to punish all the guilty: from the soldier to Putin.

The special court is to be established with the support of the United Nations. It would operate in parallel with the International Court of Justice and prosecute the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The military occupation and the crimes committed will be considered first on the day of the invasion. This is reported by Reuters, referring to the statement of the minister of foreign affairs of the Netherlands, Wopke Hoekstra.

France supports the Netherlands. Representatives of these two countries have recently stated that attacks by Russians on peaceful cities of Ukraine cannot be unpunished.

Wopke Hoekstra said that now financial support must be found for the court to function.
