The Ukrainian market of decor and housewares, from the point of view of the analysis of retail trade, is currently unsaturated and low competitive. “Ukraine, in comparison with more than 40 countries in the world where JYSK operates, it can be argued that the number of operators and the level of competition in our market is very low,” comments Yevhen Ivanitsa, executive director of JYSK Ukraine.
Despite the increased activity of national companies, foreign chains remain leading the segment of household goods.
The main foreign players in this market are IKEA (Sweden), Leroy Merlin (France), JYSK (Denmark), and Baumax (Germany).
According to experts, the last few years have been passive for the Ukrainian home goods market in terms of the entry of foreign retail operators. In particular, during this period in our country, there was no launch of new foreign brands operating in this segment. “Before the crisis, many foreign specialized chains of goods for the home and interior were interested in our market, and in the last 2-3 years this interest has been at a low level,” comments the managing director of Colliers Ukraine, Alexander Nosachenko. The most expected for the Ukrainian retail market are the shops of the Spanish Zara Home (home textiles, tableware, etc.), the Swedish IKEA (furniture), and the Japanese Tiger (tableware).

According to experts, the Ukrainian market of decor and houseware has the potential for development, expansion of existing players, and the launch of new formats, as well as the release of new brands. The main conditions for their development are the opening of high-quality shopping and entertainment centers, improving the economic situation in the country, and increasing the purchasing power of the population. An exception is the segment of tableware and kitchen accessories since it is already quite saturated and the competition is fierce.
