On June 17, acting Danish defence minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced that he supported the idea of transferring the F-16 to Ukraine.
"I'd like to say that I can't imagine us not being supportive. Ukraine needs planes. More than ever, if they want to win their fight. This also applies to the Danish F-16 combat aircraft," Troels Lund Poulsen, during a press conference at Folkemodet on Bornholm.
However, for the transfer to be, first of all, permission must be obtained from the manufacturer and copyright holder of the fighters — the United States. Today, Denmark has 43 fighters in service, 30 of which are actively used. Over time, they will be replaced by F-35s, and, ideally, obsolete F-16s can be transferred to Ukraine.
Also, acting minister Poulsen offered to train Ukrainian F-16 pilots at the Skrydstrup military base in Jutland, Denmark. This will help strengthen international educational and aviation assistance to Ukraine.
