Did the Evacuation of People From “Azovstal” Take Place in Mariupol?

On May 1, representatives of the Ukrainian government and United Nations staff rescued people from the hottest point in Ukraine

The Ukrainian city of Mariupol has become one of the most discussed in the country and the world. Russian tanks, heavy artillery, and rockets practically wiped the city from the planet. In Mariupol, all buildings have been destroyed, and there is no water and food. But there are still people!

They have been under Russian occupation for almost two months. Since March 17, Russian troops have controlled 50% of the city’s territory. At the moment, under their authority, almost the whole of Mariupol. There was one refuge left indelible — the metallurgic plant Azovstal. People and the military are hiding there from airstrikes. But there are many wounded among the people, so the Ukrainian authorities demanded an immediate evacuation of people. GT Invest wrote yesterday about the status of the humanitarian corridors in Mariupol.

On the evening of May 1, it became known that the first 100 people were taken out of the hot spot. Among the rescued are children, women, and pensioners. Among the children was a boy aged 6 months. He, as well as all, spent several months of his life in a bunker.

Buses with people went to Zaporizhzhia, the territory controlled by Ukraine. But there were still many people in Mariupol, so the evacuation was to continue the next day.

On 2 May, the first buses were to wait for war victims at 7 a.m. However, during the night, Russian ships opened fire on the city. Evacuation buses could not come for the people in the morning. As of noon on 2 May, the evacuation did not take place. But the minister for the reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk called Mariupol citizens to wait for rescue at the meeting point — the trade center Port.
