Ukrainian wheat has strengthened its position on the Egyptian market in the 2025 and 2026 marketing season. According to ASAP Agri analysts, Egypt significantly increased purchases from Ukraine between July and April, while the share of Russian and French suppliers declined.
Ukraine's share in Egypt's wheat imports rose to twenty three percent, compared with fifteen percent a year earlier. In physical volumes, shipments almost doubled: from 1.7 million tonnes in the previous comparable period to 3.3 million tonnes this season.
A key North African market
Egypt remains one of the most important wheat importers in the world, and its purchasing structure matters for exporters across the Black Sea region. For Ukraine, the increase confirms that grain logistics can recover market share even under wartime constraints.
Total Egyptian wheat imports also expanded. Over ten months of the season, the country bought 13.9 million tonnes compared with 11.3 million tonnes a year earlier. This means Ukraine benefited not only from stronger demand, but also from a shift in supplier balance.
The trend is important for Ukrainian agribusiness because North African markets have traditionally been core destinations for grain exports. Stable access to Egypt supports port utilization, farm revenues and the broader export chain.
