German defence company Diehl Defence is discussing possible cooperation with Ukrainian manufacturer Fire Point on the Flamingo cruise missile. According to reports cited by Ukrainian media, the talks include joint production and the possibility of moving part of the production process to Germany.
Diehl Defence chief executive Helmut Rauch said the company plans a series of talks with Fire Point in the coming weeks. He noted that if a new product is being created, it can make sense to produce it in Germany or in other countries as well.
Why the talks matter
The discussions come as Europe is trying to build more of its own long-range strike capacity and reduce dependence on systems supplied from outside the continent. For Ukraine, industrial partnerships can help scale production, secure components and make supply chains less vulnerable.
Fire Point says current Flamingo production is around two hundred units per month, with room to increase output. Diehl and Fire Point have already signed a technology agreement, although details of that arrangement have not been disclosed.
The practical value of any future partnership will depend on speed, certification, component access and whether production can be expanded without losing the adaptability that Ukrainian defence companies have developed during the war.
