Germany Reviews Policy of Military Assistance to Ukraine

Germany told why it did not give Ukraine arms and when will do it

German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock announced full support of Ukraine and readiness to supply weapons for as long as necessary. The politician also explained why her country had not done so before. Until February 24, Ukraine had no weapons delivered from Germany. Baerbock claimed that their weapons could have been the basis of Russia's invasion, but now the situation has changed 180 degrees.

It is already known that Germany exports weapons of different ranges and purposes to Ukraine. German ambassador Anka Feldhusen announced they will also hand over 4 air defence systems IRIS-T. Weapons against Russian terrorist missiles will be delivered in 2 stages:

  • 2 systems will be transferred before the end of 2022;
  • 2 systems will arrive in Ukraine in the winter of 2023.

"We are 150% on the side of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. And we will be with them as long as Ukraine and the Ukrainian people will need us," said Baerbock during the Yalta European Strategy.
