Japan to Provide Ukraine with 22 Mechanized Demining Machines for Pyrotechnic Units

The Japanese government is set to donate 22 mechanized demining machines to the pyrotechnic crews of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as announced by Bohdan Drapyatyi, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine

This pledge follows discussions with the leadership of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), highlighting the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in mine action.

The delivery schedule outlined by the Ukrainian delegation indicates that 14 of these machines will be handed over by the end of the current year, with the remaining eight to follow by April of the next year. Manufacturing of these vital demining tools will be undertaken by two Japanese companies, with NIKKEN producing 12 units and another unnamed manufacturer responsible for the remaining 10.

Further fostering this partnership, the Ukrainian delegation had the opportunity to visit NIKKEN's production facilities and a specialized training center for operators of such machinery in Yamanashi prefecture. This initiative underscores Japan's commitment to supporting Ukraine in addressing the critical challenge of landmine clearance, thereby contributing to the safety and rehabilitation of affected areas.
