Mykolaiv regional governor Vitaliy Kim used a Korea-Ukraine forum to push reconstruction cooperation beyond aid and toward long-term investment. His meetings in South Korea focused on energy storage, infrastructure construction, transformers, critical infrastructure recovery and engineering education.
The message is practical: Ukrainian regions need partners that can design, finance and physically implement projects, not only donate equipment after damage has already occurred. Kim said it is important for international partners to enter as strategic investors in the region’s future.
Energy, infrastructure and skills
Talks with Samsung SDI covered battery technologies, modern energy systems and possible joint facilities for Ukraine. With Samsung C&T, the delegation discussed large infrastructure projects in Mykolaiv region, local production and a long-term presence of Korean business.
LG Energy Solution joined discussions on energy resilience, climate policy and recovery of critical infrastructure. Hyosung Heavy Industries, a major producer of power equipment and transformers, was part of talks on modernization of energy networks and regional energy security.
The agenda also included Hanyang University. Education matters because reconstruction is not only about materials and machines. Ukraine will need engineers, project managers and technical specialists able to work with modern energy, transport and industrial systems.
If these contacts move from meetings to projects, Korean companies could become important partners for rebuilding southern Ukraine. The key test will be whether memoranda and technical dialogue turn into localized production, real construction sites and durable energy solutions.
