The Ministry for Development hosted a meeting with a Lithuanian delegation focused on the functioning, security and recovery of Ukraine’s port infrastructure.
The goal was to assess current needs and recovery priorities and define where Lithuania can contribute through technical expertise, operational experience, investment and support for maritime sector capacity building.
Ukraine outlined key challenges caused by Russia’s aggression, including demining port waters and approach channels, repairing and modernizing dredging fleets, procuring specialized vessels for pollution response, pilotage and search and rescue, and strengthening protection of critical infrastructure.
The Lithuanian side confirmed interest in deepening cooperation, highlighted solidarity and readiness to jointly address current challenges, and emphasized the importance of resilient strategic logistics routes. It also expressed interest in investment projects in Ukraine, including public private partnerships.
The sides welcomed the initiative to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the administrations of Odesa Sea Port and the Port of Klaipeda. Promising areas include exchange of experience on pollution response, automated environmental monitoring, port decarbonization in line with IMO and EU requirements, and port waste management.
