Mercedes-Benz and Tytan plan mobile counter-drone protection

Sensor-equipped vehicles and interceptor drones could defend airports and other critical infrastructure

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a strategic partnership with German startup Tytan Technologies, a supplier of interceptor drones to Ukraine. The project is intended to protect German airports and critical infrastructure from unauthorized unmanned aircraft.

The concept uses G-Class off-road vehicles equipped with radar and optical sensors as mobile detection and launch platforms. Interceptor drones would identify and engage hostile or unidentified UAVs, allowing teams to reposition rapidly as the threat changes.

A mobile command architecture

Mercedes Sprinter vans could serve as command posts coordinating sensor vehicles and interceptors. This combination creates deployable airspace protection without relying entirely on fixed installations around every facility.

Tytan Technologies was founded in 2023 and has already worked with the Bundeswehr while supplying interceptor systems to Ukraine. The company has attracted forty-six million euros and plans a Munich factory capable of producing up to three thousand drones per month by the end of 2026.

The partnership shows how automotive manufacturing can support European security. Vehicle platforms, industrial supply chains and defense software can be combined into a system for airports, military sites and energy infrastructure.
