On November 24, Ukraine won another diplomatic fight against Russia: the terrorist country was excluded from the chairmanship of the UNESCO committee. Although this country's membership in the organisation has been preserved, Ukraine is already working to change this.
"Russia no longer chairs the UNESCO World heritage committee. Terrorists have no place in international organisations that are created to maintain peace. We will also expel terrorists from our land. Thank the Ministry of foreign affairs and the Ministry of culture and education of Ukraine for their hard work," the minister of culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko.
Deputy foreign minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova, said that the 45th UNESCO meeting was supposed to be held this summer in Kazan. Still, the international community supported the position of Ukraine, and the session led by Russia did not take place.
"During the first-ever speech by the president of Ukraine to the members of the organisation's executive council, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed a clear position: there is no place for terrorists in the World heritage committee," Emine Dzhaparova.
Today, Russia has destroyed more than 500 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine.
