Location and Opening Date
According to a statement by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on his Telegram channel, the “Nyzhankovychi-Malkhovychi” checkpoint is set to begin operations on December 20, 2024. It will handle both passenger and freight traffic. A pedestrian crossing option will be introduced once the necessary infrastructure is completed.
Benefits of the New Checkpoint
The opening of “Nyzhankovychi-Malkhovychi” aims to:
- Expand Ukraine’s export potential
- Strengthen economic cooperation between Ukraine and Poland
- Reduce congestion at existing border crossing points
“This will further develop trade and economic ties between our countries,” Shmyhal stated.
Context for Travelers
This new checkpoint is another step in enhancing cross-border infrastructure, reflecting the positive relationship and cooperation between Ukraine and Poland.
It’s noteworthy that starting in 2025, new rules for entering the European Union may come into effect, potentially introducing fees for crossing EU borders. Additionally, Ukrainian travelers are advised to familiarize themselves with customs regulations to avoid bringing items that could result in entry denial.
