Dame Melinda Simmons has been the British ambassador to Ukraine since 2019. All this time, she was a reliable diplomat and our support, who, moreover, learned the Ukrainian language quite well.
Dame Simmons is coming to the end of her embassy term this year: rotation will take place in September, and Martin Harris will be appointed as the new ambassador. During 2003-2008, Harris was the British consul general in Ukraine.
“I am delighted to be returning to Ukraine to lead our embassy’s vital work in supporting the Ukrainian government and people as they defend their country and our common values,” Martin Harris.
“The UK’s relationship with Ukraine has never been stronger, and we will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
It would seem that Mr Harris is returning to the country he already was — but this is an entirely different country.
