Ukraine plans to complete at least two new nuclear power units

Khmelnytskyi NPP units 3 and 4 are the priority

Ukraine plans to complete at least two new nuclear power units, with units 3 and 4 at the Khmelnytskyi NPP named as the main priority. According to Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, there are two completado options now under review, and experts are working to select the most optimal approach.

The government positions nuclear generation as the base of the future energy architecture because it can cover stable baseload demand. That is why finishing the Khmelnytskyi units is described as a key step in strengthening energy security.

The ministry also plans to integrate the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant into Energoatom. A draft law has already been submitted to parliament to create an integrated holding that would cover the full nuclear fuel cycle.

The message from policymakers is clear: large nuclear projects are returning to the agenda as a long term infrastructure priority.
