The National Bank of Ukraine reports that in February 2023, private foreign direct investment in enterprises on the territory of Ukraine amounted to $201 million, of which $77 million was reinvestment. The net inflow of FDI excluding reinvestment is $126 million. For comparison, the net outflow of FDI in February 2022 amounted to $719 million.
For the first couple of months of 2023, the amount of net FDI = $384 million, of which reinvestment is $189 million. Compared with $553 million of net investment outflow in November-December 2022.
The net increase in the external position of banks' operations by investments (including portfolio ones) under the item "currency and deposits" amounted to $542 million, and the net purchase of bonds by the National Bank of Ukraine — $25 million. This became the basis for the net increase in the external position of Ukrainian banks' operations by $577 million in February.
The volume of cash in foreign currency outside banks (excluding FDI) in February 2023 was $1,1 billion, compared with $943 million in February 2022. This contributed to a net increase in external indicators of the real sector of the economy. A decrease in external debt obligations + $165 million, an increase in the net external position about bonds + $144 million.
