Register of Missing Persons

In Ukraine, has been put into operation "Unified register", which records the identities of Ukrainians who disappeared during the war

Due to the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have disappeared. The vast majority of them have already been found alive, or dead, or deported. However, there are still around 23.000 people whose whereabouts are unknown.

The representative of the Ministry of internal affairs of Ukraine, Leonyd Tymchenko, reported that the Unified register of persons disappeared under special circumstances opened at the Office of the commissioner for missing persons.

From May 2, Ukrainians can apply to the Ministry of internal affairs and report their missing relative, and receive an extract regarding his registration in the list of missing persons.

"This registry is a fully secured database. And certain officials will have access to it: representatives of the Office of the commissioner for missing persons, employees of the National police and the Informatization department of the Ministry of internal affairs of Ukraine. Record cards are formed based on applications submitted by relatives of the missing to the National Police. And the verification of each person is carried out directly by the Office of the commissioner for missing persons," Leonyd Timchenko.

In order to obtain information about the missing person, the plaintiff must provide documents certifying kinship and its degree.
